I have just noticed that in the system settings box for screensavers, when i now try to open to change my screensaver it won't open. this is now the only icon in the system settings box that won't open. All the rest open. I'm using vector 7 gold. I don't know what happened, it did work, i changed the screen saver to fireworks for a week, made no changes and it seems i'm kinda in a pickle. Has anyone encountered this problem? or a fix for this? I hate to have to reinstall vector again, i have everything just perfect.

See if the screen saver daemon is running
post the output of
Code:
ps aux |grep screensaver

from that same terminal as non-root user run xscreensaver-demo and see if it errors out and post the output if it does.

yeah, looks like your gdk-pixbuf2 package got broken somehow

Get into gslapt, and re-install it.  I have this version gdk-pixbuf2-2.23.3-i486-1
and it works fine.

I can confirm that a downgrade to gdk-pixbuf2 version 2.23.3 fixes the problem.  However, it looks like gdk-pixbuf2-2.24.1 was intoduced with the new build of gimp-2.8.0 and is a dependency of gimp-2.8.0, gtk+2-2.24.10, and gegl-0.2.0

So I think for a fix we should persue building a new xscreensaver same version with a higher build number, but built against the new gdk-pixbuf2-2.24.1.

I down graded gdk-pixbuf2 and this fixed the problem. can now access screen savers again.  stretchedthin is correct about gimp 2.8. this brakes the new gimp. so i'm down grading gimp as well.

syncdram:$ gimp
gimp: error while loading shared libraries: libgegl-0.1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Fixed gimp by downgrading gegl for gimp 2.6
