Trouble with sudo
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:30:42 pm »

I just installed Vector Linux Gold 7.0 and created a separate user account so that I don't have to log in as the root user. However, when I use the sudo command in the terminal  and enter the root password I get a response like this:

"Sorry, user katie is not allowed to execute '/usr/sbin/slapt-get --update' as root on HerbKatie.Linux.net.

This happens regardless of the command I am trying to execute with root permissions. Upon installation I checked all of the available permissions boxes when adding the account. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

You  need  to setup sudo in order to use it.

The command as root in the command line is:

visudo

edit and save the file.

Then sudo will work.

VectorLinux don't use sudo as default...why not use vsuper or use su instead?

Thank you all so much. "vsuper" worked perfectly. I have been using only Ubuntu for a couple of years, so it may take me a while to learn the differences.
