(Solved) VirtualBox Shared Folders
« on: June 11, 2012, 02:27:06 pm »

I just installed VL 7 as a guest in VirtualBox. Installed the guest additions but I can't for the life of me get shared folders to mount. Anyone know what I'm missing?

okay, I finally figured it out.

guess it might help someone if I said how...
create a folder where you want to mount the shared folder. for example ~/Multimedia
add "mount -t vboxsf -o uid=1000,gid=1000 (name of the shared folder)  /home/(your user name)/(where you want to mount it)" to /etc/rc.d/rc.local

well, you have to install the guest additions and add your user name to the vboxsf group. other than that it should work.

edit: you also have to have the kernel source package installed in order to have the VirtualBox modules build correctly.

not a problem.

to add yourself open the terminal
type
su
<your password>
usermod -a -G vboxsf <your user name>

in the tip I left I forgot to mention the word "Media" should actually be whatever the name of the folder is you added under the shared folder menu in VirtualBox.
