Operating system not found
« on: June 22, 2012, 01:31:49 am »

While installing Vector Linux 7 under Vmware Workstation 8 I keep getting this error:
Quote
Network boot from AMD Am79C970A

CLIENT MAC ADDR:
PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Operating system not found
How do I fix it? Please don't suggest me deploying PXE server.

I hope that there is some kind of an option/parameter which allows to fix this one.

Did the install complete successfully and it's just not rebooting into the OS? Maybe switch the boot order to boot from the virtual hard disk first?

Why does it say "Network boot" ?

I have not used vmware in years, but look into your virtual machine's boot options make sure it's not trying to boot PXE.  It should be booting the virtual hard drive instead.

Here's the order of messages I get - the installation starts but never completes:
    Loading x-files...
    Select monitor...
    Starting GUI installer...
    Logging in as root...
    Switching to runlevel 6...
    acpid: exiting...
    Rebooting...
I also have tried switching to different boot order, and have tried physical CD instead of image...
