CUPS will not accept a blank passwords. Create passwords and try again. Use "root" to configure cups.
Thank you nightflier for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I do not yet have sufficient grasp of Linux and do not know how to set up a new root password (see below) or even know how to configure cups in root, or even know why I would have to configure cups. Yes, I am that new!
What I had tried previously was this because it worked in DreamLinux.
Go into Terminal and enter 'sudo passwd root'
When I tried this the last time in VectorLinux I got the message ...
User vl is not allowed to execute ' /usr/bin/passwd root' as root on vector.live.lan
What is it that I am doing wrong? What do I have to configure in cups and why?
It is late here now so I shall have to sign off and pick it up in the morning.
