question re grsync backup tool (root)
« on: May 30, 2012, 08:29:30 pm »
When backing up my home directory, I get a "completed with errors" notice.

The only error I notice in the log is:  "rsync: readlink_stat("/home/johwhi/.gvfs") failed: Permission denied (13)"

I checked .gvfs and it has nothing in it.  So I tried to delete .gvfs.  Thunar refuses to delete, saying that it is unable to find or create a trash directory.

I then tried to delete .gvfs in midnight commander but get a "Cannot remove directory. Device or Resource busy (16).

I could probably delete .gvfs with mc in root but am nervous that it might break something.

And I may be on the complete wrong track.

However, usually gsrync backup completes successfully.

Any thoughts?

I reloaded gvfs from the repositories and continue to get "backup completed with errors."

The only thing I see wrong when looking at the backup log is:

Quote
rsync: readlink_stat("/home/johwhi/.gvfs") failed: Permission denied (13)

The .gvfs file is part of the Gnome Virtual File System.
the only way to delete it is to change to init 2 (no X)
I think you can safely ignore that error.
