Hello.  I posted earlier about troubles with Plasma, but now have given up
on that because I'm seeing similar issues cropping up here and there
with that desktop.  I'm using XFCE and it's fine because I can add anything
to it I want as far as eye candy etc.

One question:  this is a 64 bit machine, an HP Pavilion m7.  Some packages
install but won't run, and I'm assuming it may be because of a conflict with
the non-32 bit chip.  Can that be?  Examples are supertux (the latest version
provided by the VL repositories), supertuxkart, xboard (gnuchess) and a
few others that evade my recollection.  Grin

They just won't start, via command line or gui.  No panel notification or
anything.

Thoughts?   Smiley

Jordan

[edit]:  re-reading my post I see that I left out that the VL version I'm running
is VL 64 bit.

No errors on most of them.  Just nothing happening when I attempt to start some programs.

The xboard screen does come up, but it includes a note in front of it that says "fairy" something
isn't there.  I did a search for it in the gslapt program but came up with nothing, so I uninstalled
it along with those others that would not start.

Naturally I tried that, as root as well as user.  "no such file or directory" or some such, so
I uninstalled them in gslapt thinking it must be the 32/64 bit conflict.

Now, on to trying to find screensaver;  it is in the gslapt list as being installed, and it does
come on, but I have no menu settings for it and it won't come up in cli at all.  I wonder
if something else could be wrong.

You reply of the error is too general to debug...pls give something more specific...
Can you run xscreensaver from terminal?
