finding /dev/video0
« on: August 26, 2012, 05:17:08 pm »

I'm trying to record some vhs videos to my hard drive.  In some previous linux distributions, I haven't had any problems.  I can't access /dev/video0 or video1.  I do notice that on VL7 Standard, Video for Linux is installed.  Sorry at this point I can't give information about what video capture card I have - but is there a basic step I may be missing.  Do i need IVTV?  I'm not interested in recording off TV.  Usually "cat /dev/video0 > file.mpg" does the trick.

Thanks!

My guess is that the firmware for the tuner card driver is not installed.
