This was a solid VL7 system running on a high end HP laptop with no problems for five months.
It was then used by my adult children visiting the UK. Now the sound has stopped working.
It isn't muted and the visual graphical displays of volume move as expected but no sound emerges.

Laptops often have special function keys to control hardware, like turn on and off sound. Make sure that hasn't been triggered.

After re-checking everything, I have come to the conclusion that it is a BIOS issue. Not so easy to overcome.
