[solved] Ctrl-L doesn't work
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:49:19 pm »

Hello.  Sometimes when I wish to open a file in a program such as leafpad or geany, I would like to simply enter the location of the file in a line of text.  For instance, if I wanted to open the file /usr/share/doc/geany/README, rather than pressing the open dialogue and clicking on various graphical representations of directories to move from /home/user to /usr/share/doc/geany/README, I'd prefer to just be able to enter the text "/usr/share/doc/geany/README" in an open-file box.  Often this functionality is available via pressing Ctrl-L, but for some reason in a lot of programs on Vector, it doesn't work.  How can I get this to work?

Hello.
Not sure if I get what you mean. But lets see...

What windowmanager are you using? Check keys assigned to some action in the windowmanager, if there is not collision.

So if you press Ctrl+L it is not doing anything or something else or it works jsut sometimes?

It does work in thunar, which is good.  But what drove me crazy was that it didn't work in the text editor I was using, leafpad.  However, I discovered that it will work in geany as long as I already have an open-file dialogue opened before pressing Ctrl-L.  So, I'm going to use that editor from now on.
