OK.

Still no joy on getting to the Interwebz. Had more issues with B0.6 than I did with .2.

Install appeared to work, but upon reboot and logging in to the user account, I'm met with a warning that the /home directory for the user was not made. Reinstall came up with same message. Logged in as root, deleted the user account and recreated. Issue fixed.

Wireless still able to connect to modem, but still not getting out to the Interwebz. Even after redoing the connection information via VASM, it's just not working. See's the SSIDs in the neighborhood, is able to connect to the home network, but it's just flat not getting out. ifconfig shows wlan0 talking, but I sure don't know who it's talking to! Itself, I guess. >.<

So, decided to reboot and the system locked up at the login screen again. Can't get in at all now.
reboot to TUI, then login as root and reboot, see if you can login after that.
if you can login does wlan0 have an IP?
is there a nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf?

No joy. Can log in as root and user in TUI mode. However, once a restart is accomplished, system locks up at login. Or, if you try to sneak in via TUI by typing startx, system locks up again.

Syslog shows the following:

This new VASM supercedes many OLD SLACKWARE configurators.
If you want to delete them, call /sbin/rm_old_config

Make sure you have installed:
- tcl and expect (used by vuser abd vsuper)
- knocker or nmap (used by vsambaweb and vcupsweb)
- vlsetup, hwdata (used by vhwconf and vxconf)
- Xorg or XFree installed (used by vxconf).

Please wait while we run mkfontscale and mkfontdir in your font directories.

Made the change to xorg.conf and then typed: startx

XFCE started, however system locked up as soon as the desktop was finished loading.

debug shows:

this is a bit perplexing.
I am not sure the best way for you to test. the only thing that has changed in the last 5 or 6 ISO is the kernel.
It is causing us major grief. you can either download and install kernels, or new ISO's
this one has the latest 3.7.4 kernel, and it has some intel bugfixes: http://vlcore.vectorlinux.com/pkg/untested/veclinux-7.1/iso/VL64-7.1-STD-B0.8.iso
Vec really likes the 3.6.8 kernel, so if you can test it that would be great also.

Thanks,

I don't mind testing ISOs. Crank 'em out and I'll try to install 'em.  Cheesy

Ugh! Someone needs to go give the server a kick. I'm only averaging around 20KB/s downloads from it right now.

Edit -- I'll try to download the new ISO later. Should just take a few minutes on this connection, but it's hovering between 10-15 KB/s which will take forever. Have other things I need to do without having to babysit the connection.

We're getting closer! Cheesy

Still got the error about no /home directory/volume upon first login. Bugged out, logged into root to delete and recreate the user.

It appears that the networking portion is automatically trying to assign the network to eth0, regardless of what's detected. I need to go in and modify some stuff and change the network to wlan0, but I think I can get networking to work. We'll see. However that is an issue that needs to be corrected along with the creation of the user's home directory during the install.

Something I ran into with the installer that needs to be addressed. When the installer finds the ISOs on the hard drives, we need to annotate which drive the ISO was found on. My first download was flawed and had to download again, but the second download was on a different drive. Imagine my surprise when they both showed up on the installation list. Luckily, I picked the correct one.

No lockups this time around, which is a good thing. I'll play around with it and see if I can finally get it to connect properly to the Interwebz.

OK. This is strange. I tried to change inet1 from eth0 to wlan0 in VASM. Doesn't work. It clears inet1 completely when you try to change it. Wireless card sees the router and connects. ifconfig shows traffic being passed on wlan0. But it just doesn't see the Interwebz. Can't traceroute, ping, surf or anything.

Yes, it is. I always install to 3 partitions. root, home and swap.
