Pretty much any Windows 8 machine is going to have that issue. Not just notebooks, but desktops as well.

I have two licensed copies of WIndows 7, and am contemplating snagging a third. Unless things change with how Windows 8 looks and interacts with the system, I'll never use it. Even if the machine comes with it, I'll nuke the drive, change the BIOS and install Windows 7.

It appears Linux is getting closer to a fix. Linux foundation has received the UEFI boot system from Microsoft. Still some bugs to work out, but it looks to be closer than in the past.

Retiredaf1,

Windows 8 will still install and work fine under bios legacy mode. Just letting you know if you ever need to try it, cus you mentioned Win 7 above. After getting rid of the metro screen and adding a start menu button, it works just like windows 7.

You beat me to the post on the updated Secure Boot fix LOL.. ( I'm DarkPenquin on Linux Forums and also Electric Rider on the above blog.. I'm all over the place talking about this) I wish I knew some C programming so I could help find better ways around this draconian device. It's not like when you buy a Windows 8 PC you will know it's a locked down system.. that info isn't advertised to the regular consumer so it's not fair.

I plan to try this with Vector soon when I get my system backed up again.
