Hello.  I'm using stable, and have the packages, extra, and patches repositories enabled.  I am trying to install Mplayer, but it won't do it, telling me "MPlayer: Depends: dirac >= 1.0.2-i586-2vl70".  I checked, and I have dirac 1.0.2-i586-1vl70 installed, which is listed as the latest available version.

I just did a fresh install of Vector 7.0, with a subsequent upgrade (everything stable), and Mplayer did install (version 20101119-i586-1vl70).  However, it won't run.  It states,
Code:
mark:$ mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvpx.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

MPlayer come per-install in VL7 STD...may i know why you want to reinstall it again? Are you trying to upgrade it?
I have MPlayer-20101119-i586-1vl70 installed.

Thanks for your questions.  I am not looking to reinstall mplayer.  I am not looking to upgrade mplayer.  I simply want mplayer to work (currently it is not).  I have mplayer version 20101119-i586-1vl70 installed from a fresh install of VL-70 (following an update with stable sources).  When I try to run it, I get the following feedback:

Code:
mark:$ mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvpx.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
vector:/~

Again, I am neither looking to reinstall nor upgrade mplayer.  I simply want mplayer to work.  If there's any other questions, feel free to ask.

I don't think I use mplayer.  I play mp3s with alsaplayer.  However I just tried to play an mp3 with mplayer and I also get the following error:

Quote
/usr/bin/mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvpx.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

here i encontered same issue with mplayer after upgrading......then i downgrading ....
many times i tested, mplayer still doesn't work....
IT MUST BE SOME THING WRONG WITH libvpx package on th repo.

WHILE RUNING MPLAYER/UMPLAYER UNDER 64BIT VL7, IT WORKS
HOPE VECTOR TEAM DEVELOPPER WILL OFFER FIX PKG OVER THE SUNDAY AT LEAST!

I still can't install the latest mplayer.  I currently have mplayer 1.1-i586-1vl70 installed, but when I try to upgrade it to 20101119-i586-1vl70 I get the error that I wrote of in the first post (that being that the dependency on dirac is not satisfied).  The older mplayer has some problems when running:

Code:
mark:$ mplayer
MPlayer 1.1-4.5.2 (C) 2000-2012 MPlayer Team
This codecs.conf is too old and incompatible with this MPlayer release! at line 6

In checking PACKAGES.TXT for the repository, mplayer 20101119-i586-1vl70 calls for "dirac >= 1.0.2-i586-2vl70" and yet this doesn't exist with the packages.

later edit:  the version I have installed is from the untested repository from a helpful post by uelsk8s.  It does allow umplayer to work, which is good.  [digress]However, other things still aren't working for me (like getting tovid to work) which may or may not have anything to do with mplayer.[/digress]

Thanks.  That (creating a soft link to a lib file named but without the final numerical digit) helped not only with Mplayer, but a bunch of other programs as well.
