Searched forums but most refer to getting SD cards to mount, not booting from them. VL 7.0 STD Gold installed with unetbootin on 2gb SD card. It boots in the card reader on two HP minis. A 1000 and a 110

Will not boot on two Toshiba NB series netbooks if in the card reader but will boot if it's in a USB adapter. The Boot select(F12) refers to both the card reader and USB as "USB". Error is something to the effect that :

"VL install cannot continue. This should never happen. Boot is from an unsupported device "SATA or PMCMIA". Work around is to rewrite to another device"

Having a USB boot device hanging out where it is begging to get snapped off is less preferable to leaving the SD card in its latching slot. I did read somewhere about altering some files but this was like 3-4 pages long and appears very convoluted.

Any ideas as to why it works in the HP's but not the Toshibas?

Thanks

That points to a Bios problem. The Bios
setups vary from manufacturer.

That's what I thought at first but just looking thru notes and trying again, both Toshiba netbooks will boot PCLOS 2012 from the SD card slot.

Some searching claims that the toshiba NB SD card slot is not bootable but that is obviously not so.  F12 on these netbooks brings up boot menu . SD card is NOT listed but "Generic multi-reader USB 2.0" is. ( This implies the card reader)

Using PCLOS LiveUSB Creator on Tosh A305 loading pclos 2012-lxde on to 2gb SD card via portable USB card adapter. Then remove SD card from adapter and booting 2 Toshiba netbooks and 2 HP minis from card slot is OK

Using Unetbootin on same Tosh A305  to install VL 7.0 STD gold live to 2gb SD card via same portable USB adapter. But this card (same manufacture) only boots from SD card slot in the HP minis. For the toshibas I must use the "thumbdive" USB card adapter

PCLOS LiveUSB creator must be doing something different than Unetbootin. Any ideas appreciated.
