How-To: Build Packages for the VL-Repository
(1/1)
LLL:
JohnB316 has updated my 'how-to' on making packages - it's hanging out in the 'New Package Requests' section of the forum - the link is below!

Should be noted that this how-to can easily be used as a 'how-to build from source' as well.
Happy Packaging! :)

Thank you both for this HOW-TO. Wouldn't it be reasonable to move it here?
kidd:
That howto is a bit old, and standards for pakaging changed a bit, for example, now, the source package must be provided, and a SlackBuild to generate the vl package from source. Checkinstall will work for individual purposes, but not for publishing a package in the repo.

An up-to-date 'how to' with a clear example would be a great help to us would-be packagers. Or if there are enough packagers, an up-to-date 'how to' in whatever is needed. (Maybe internationalisation http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=98.210)

There is a thread that is showing somewhat step by step of how to package you can find it here:
