Just in case anyone are not familiar with Clonezilla; it it a fabulous example of free software.

My standard procedure for new Windows PC's is to set up the OS with all the patches, updates and our "standard" software. This takes a couple hours. Re-installing from scratch is usually faster and better than cleaning out a factory install. When it is all done, I take a Clonezilla snapshot. Restore only takes about 10 minutes. Future repairs/cleanups are quick and easy. Also, with a batch of identical machines, using the same image on all of them saves a huge amount of time.

I was doing this to a brand new laptop, and what do you know.. obviously W7 does not have working, built-in drivers for it. No driver disc included. I only managed to wipe out the factory setup (including restore partition) and get the machine to where it would boot to the Windows logo, then lock up hard. Fortunately, my initial, "out of the box" Clonezilla image brought the machine back to "as new".

If you're not already using Clonezilla, check it out.  Grin
