cannot find wireless network

Hello I am new and a newbe. 

I,ve installed VLocity. And Wicd cannot find my wireless network.
But I know I have/had a working wifi connection but after installing VLocity
It cannot connect.

I am  absolutely no linux wizard so maybe somebody can help me.

I enterded :

This is what I get with iwconfig:

When posting as giving as much information as possible
will increase the time needed for an answer.

Alos include the things you have tried to fix it, since that
maybe effect the answer as well.

From lspci is this a Thinkpad E530?

It is possible that you did not setup the wireless card
so it may not be running.

Open  a terminal (console) and then type: su
enter root password

Now type:

iwconfig wlan0 up

If iwconfig shows any changes than what you posted
please post that information.

The unassigned device is your card reader.

Yes it is a thinkpad E530

Try the command without using "up" ad see what
you get.

Have you tried using the setup tools for
getting the wireless going?

and I did not try anything to fix it before I went to this forum.

So somehow I have to make VL see that I have an wireless card.
and connect with it.
 
I think I have an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 card. But how can I be sure?

The module iwlwifi is normally included.

How did you install Vlocity? LiveCD or by CD.

Try this:

As root:

lsmod | grep iwlwifi

If there is output please post it. If not you can try this:

modprobe iwlwifi

Then try the lsmod command above.

If there is a return after you use modprobe you should be able to
bring up the interface by typing this command:

ifconfig wlan0 up

Then look at ifconfig for wlan0

Post back your results.

You have the needed wireless card drivers.

Try using the network manager to setup your wireless
card.

Hm yeah but when doing iwconfig results in : no such device,
and the Wicd network manager also does not show other wireless networks like from the
neighbours?

Have you tried using vasm to set up your network card (it can be found in the main menu under "System")?

if you are using VL7, you can use wicd to configure your wireless...

Go to www,vectorlinux.com and click the "Download" tab, there you should see THREE CD's available for download. And while I'm thinking about it, are you sure that your wireless device is compatible with Linux? I had the same problem with one wireless adapter and I come to find out that it wasn't compatible with the newer operating systems (such as Linux).
