I am trying to use K3b to grab a video from a DVD, I ask it to show the files on the DVD, and I get the following error message:

I made sure that transcode was installed first.

I get the same thing.  The "Start Ripping" link is greyed out, and when I press "Show files", I get a similar error to what you displayed in your screenshot.

My guess is that  K3B was not compiled with libdvdread

How then do I resolve that problem?

recompile k3b with libdvdread, if the package was compiled without libdvdread support.

I had installed it using Gslapt, so how do I go about recompiling it?

I have libdvdread installed, version 4.1.3-i486-1, along with k3b version 2.0.2-i586-1vl70 installed.  I still get the issue that Locater described (that being that the "Start Ripping" link is greyed out).

I forgot to mention before that the DVD that I was working with (in the above example) was one that I had made myself.

There seems to be some issue with transcode.  Even though it's installed, k3b cannot find it.  I uninstalled transcode via Gslapt, and tried to build it from source, but got the following feedback:

Code:
../avilib/avilib.h:329:6: note: expected 'const char *' but argument is of type 'uint8_t *'

I'm not sure what to try to fix this.

PS, I have ffmpeg version 0.10-i586-5vl70 installed.

hi, I think transcode version 1.1.5 is at fault.  hata_ph and I are working on transcode 1.1.7 to see if this resolves the issue.  If so will get into gslapt as soon as possible.

Please try k3b for ripping after upgrading transcode to version 1.1.7.  I think that will resolve the problem.

I installed transcode from testing.  k3b now sees transcode and uses it, but there was an error with ffmpeg:

Code:
[export_ffmpeg.so] Error opening configuration file ./ffmpeg.cfg: No such file or directory

The above feedback was from the "Show Debugging Output" after the rip of both titles on the dvd failed.  Also, the original feedback that Locater noted in his/her screenshot after pressing the "show files" link is still present.  I did a search on my system for ffmpeg.cfg, and it's not present:

 transcode (Audio/Video transcoding)

transcode is a text-console utility for video stream processing.
Decoding and encoding is done by loading modules that are
responsible for feeding transcode with raw video/audio streams
(import modules) and encoding the frames (export modules). It
supports elementary video and audio frame transformations,
including de-interlacing or fast resizing of video frames and
 loading of external filters.

Please try k3b for ripping after upgrading transcode to version 1.1.7.  I think that will resolve the problem.

The current version of transcode that GSlapt lists is 1.1.5 (and yes, I did update GSlapt).

You will need to have testing enabled in gslapt for this one.
