Hi there, recently installed velocity on my new computer, however I have no sound via any web browser at a sound enabled site.... for example flash plays (extensively tested youtube) but no sound, Likewise the BBC iPlayer.   If I download something from you tube and play it locally we have sound.   I can play CDs (with sound) and also DVDs with sound.  My audi chip is a HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic.  Any clues?

I used the latest one in the 64bit repository... no joy

Checking on the Adobe site I have flash 11.2.202.258 installed, which is their latest version

I know, I know.. But gotta ask anyway. You checked the appropriate channels in alsamixer?

Now that is an interesting thing, I have multiple options and  I have turned up all full and selected all channels.

Yeah, besides reinstalling the flash-plugin, and checking volume levels via a mixer (maybe the PCM level is important, I'm not sure), I don't know what to suggest.  Perhaps checking to see if alsa-oss is installed on your machine will help.  Perhaps running "alsaconf" as root will work, assuming that this command still exists (I think it's in the "alsa-utils" package).

No joy on any of those - its not as if I don't have sound, just on on flash or other systems via the www.

Hmmm. Grasping at straws here. Is port 1935 blocked? Flash uses that to communicate with the client.

Now how do I check that?
