I would appear the irfanview requires MFC42.dll. google search for mfc42.dll downloads and add the dll file you choose to wine. you should find wine as a hidden file .wine in your home directory and as with win add your dll file to system or system32 folder. personally I find that geeqie with imagemagick added to the edit menu works as well for linux. iview is a great windows freeware though.
edit: you should realize that not all win applications will work with wine, here is a link to a db that you may find of use in the future.
http://appdb.winehq.org/adding: I installed wine 141 to a fresh install of vl7l and then installed iview435 with out issue. the install added wine to the menu and iview was installed with a desktop icon along with a few additional icons. I opened a jpg. if it helps. mfc42.dll was a common request on win95/98 as I recall but was not ask for in this case.
