jre update 11
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:49:59 pm »

Hello.  There seems to be some serious security issue with jre update 10.  See link.  So, if update 11 could be built, that would be great.

Thanks for that.  But, of course, now update 11 is considered a security risk.  Perhaps people should just forget the java plug-in and the asinine games that accompany it.

Unless you REALLY need Java on your machine, there isn't any reason to leave it installed.  Java has been a security nightmare virtually from day one. Unless you do Java coding, the average user doesn't need it on their machine.

Anything programmed in Java will require JRE to run, and indeed some applets on the web can use it too. However, it seems like most programs that come with VL don't require JRE as they are programmed in other languages.

If you are concerned about webpages abusing your Java, you can disable or remove the Java plugin in the browser.

No, for Java coding you need jdk (java development kit). jre is the java runtime environment.
