When I try to boot into VL7.0 Gold gui, I get a box to select the network to boot to but it is empty.  The first few times, I could cancel then ctrl-alt-del to reboot.  Now the mouse and, seemingly, keyboard don't respond.

I had set it to allow, I thought, logon from a network station.  Apparently, this is to logon to another station - not what I wanted.

I can boot to tui or to VL5.9 but I don't know what to change to cancel what I did.  I've made too many additions and changes that I don't really want to re-install.  Anyone have any ideas?

OK.  I've installed VL7.0 in my Test partition.  Gui has no mouse (the pointer is there) and no keyboard.  In tui, tried vasm - no change.  Reading another post tried vxconf and startx

One possibility might be bad surface on the hd.  I was unable to install VL6 or 7.0 in another partition.  Is there anything that can check this. They are formated reiserfs and I've never had trouble with it.

I have done nothing further in the VL7 partition (which is where 5.9 was installed).

Thanks Overthere.  Copied 2.6.22.14 from VL5.9 to Test (7.0) and I now have kb and mouse.

I also get a message (booted into gui)

At least, I can now use the 3-finger salute instead of the power button to restart.

I'll use Test to reinstall lilo and see if that makes a difference.

Have you used the live cd of vl7 to see if it likes your unit.

I seem to think that the 2.6 modules are wrong and are for the 5.9 kernal and should be 3.x for vl7 but as I said just my guess.

the live cd would bypass the hd drive and test that it works on the unit thus a hd issue? will also perhaps provide access to the hd drive via mount for additional tinkering..I am really guessing but if you have not considered it perhaps of value.

Lilo was installed from VL5.9 with the result I was getting most of the errors mentioned.  It took time to get lilo in VL7 to accept VL5.9.  Am now in my original 7.0 partition with all the changes and additions that I didn't want to go thru again.

I should now be able to get rid of the prompt for which computer which I had thought allowed other computers to log into this one.

And, I still have to figure out why one partition doesn't like me.

Thanks again for your assistance.
