OK.  I finally found some time and dl'd the package and extracted it.  It has several executables but no Makefile.  Now what do I do?

I tried executing the SeaMonkey executable and about told me I was in the old one.

If you run seamonkey as root, you can use Help - Check for updates (seamonkey also does this automatically if so configured), and it will update itself (at least within recent versions). If you download a binary package from seamonkey instead of a VL package, what I do is to simply uncompress it to /opt and add a .desktop file that calls /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey. Be aware that this all works outside the VL package management, so don't update seamonkey with gslapt after using any of this.

Opened SeaMonkey as root - no updates found. SeaMonkey is up to date.

Then I checked Help->About and was surprised that I was working with 2.0.11!  Hm. How did that happen?  I'll discard my download.

Thanks, Joe
