just downloaded VL64-7.1-STD-B0.37.iso,

using unetbootin to install to a new desktop,
but can't set  / partition as xfs,  if chose xfs, press forward, it hang there .
always have to chose auto install... then that's ext3..... also it will take whole disk to make partition auto.

which's aggressive....

there's advance choice, but it won;t function at all......

by which command i can set / as xfs for install ,,
please help!

please offer the fix asap

If advanced wont work thats a bug to be fixed, we will fix xfs once we discover the source of the problem.
Keep in mind this is beta software... there are errors to fix.

Hexchat v Pidgin:

I'm a devoted Xchat/Hexchat user. Wouldn't touch Pidgin with your keyboard and a very long stick.

Yet my opinion is that on the ISO, Pidgin should stay, Hexchat must go.

1. Pidgin covers more protocols.
2. It's more like what brand-new users have seen before.
3. Hexchat users know how to add and remove software, and usually how to add BitlBee or such if wanted.

Of course, if the size difference between the two decides in favor of Hexchat on ISO, no complaints here  Smiley

This is a new bug over the last two test releases as this hasn't happened since the installer was brand new. Hopefully we can get this fixed soon so we can get an official beta release out soon.................Smiley

Hmm xfs is disabled for root from the very beginning because it was causing problems with bootloaders. The error is that it shouldnt be offered as an option for /, at least until a fix for the other problems is found.

was not talking about xfs  just  the lack of the advanced option which has been available for sometime. This only occured with last test release.

at first i used unetbootin to make boot image on pendrive to boot... then boot then gparted.......

you see 60 G hd used for install, before install only one partition ntfs onit
i deleted  with gparted, then made one promary partitionat 20G for /, 8G for  swap, then extended partiton 27G for /home,  except swap ,a ll were  formated to xfs

was my partition made wrong  then system refuse  to install?

never had such daunting install experirneces with vl7.1 64 bit...

it hangs at  there for advance installl...

only possible to install with auto install. that's in ext3.. a bit slow.

tested pulling out hd  to another pc installing , same issue, no advance install possible.

please do advise the proper correct method for making 3 partitions(/, swap, home)on blank hd  with gparted or other tools.
maybe VL 7.1 developper should also give partition model plans for user to chose when installing, like mandriva  always advise which partition setting  are suitable.

Sorry Vec I missed the context of your answer.

was my partition made wrong  then system refuse  to install?

The partition scheme looks right to me.

Sometimes trying to improve or fix things breaks something else, it happens when software is being developed.

There is a bug in advanced install and we are working to fix it. As I said before, this is beta software and some problems are expected.
You may want to wait for a stable release.

Thanks for the feedback, we will be happy to fix things and try to improve the Vector experience.

B0-37 32bit

Burned DVD. Tried to install from with GUI. It does not go Forward when a partition is
assigened as root no matter if set to format or not.to format

Tried TUI installer. Same after assigning a partition as root and clicking on Next
it jumps out to console as root.

Tried good old Setup and it will not find the CD.

Might try vinstall-iso-ng tomorrow.

On B0.38..

Running text installation on 32 and 64bit give me below error
Quote
No filesystem could mount root, tried: reisefs ext3 ext2 ext4 vfat msdos iso9660 ntfs romfs udf jfs xfs ocfs2 brtfs gfs2 gfs2meta
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknow-block(1,0)

Automatic GUI installation work. But I notice it will not use the full disk size when auto partitioning. For example, I have a 10GB vbox disk, it will create 8GB as / and 1GB as swap...and there will be around 400MB plus of unpartition free space left

Advance GUI installation work on both version but if you choose lilo as the boot loader it will hang at the installing bootloader stage...choose Grub2 and it work finish the process.

On 32bit, system will hang at bootsplash after the installation. Press esp key will let u go to TUI login, type startx will show xinit: connection to x server lost, type startxfce4 give me a vanila xfce4 desktop

On 64bit, every work fine...just notice there is a Desktop folder on the xfce4 desktop....

btw, why the default hostname is darkstar.example.com?

now 038  64bit does work ......but intel g41 vga  chip can't be loaded correctly, it now  is working as vesa  mode, other mode doesn't work at all.
please  fix up the driver issue with g41 chips  asap.
due to vga driver as vesa, boot into gui takes very long.....

here's dmesg output
