B0.39 32-bit from CD to hardware.
No matter what, won't install lilo to any bootsector -- just hangs.
Booting to install from CD, X won't start.
I'm not inclined to let it fiddle with the MBR.

.Just installed B039   64 bit,

install process went smoothly, installer still can't  find right resolution for samsung syncmaster 920nw lcd  monitor, can chose advance install, xfs ok.

but intel g41 vga  chip can't be loaded correctly, it now  is working as vesa  mode, other mode doesn't work at all.

resolution problem for samsung syncmaster 920nw lcd  monitor remains under gui desktop as well.

please  fix up the driver issue with g41 chips  asap.

issue for halt ad poweroff, it won't turn off power on desktop  totally

fan still running

always have to press power button 3 seconds to power off 100%

it remains

Thought I'd given up on above install, but
Tried booting from CD to installation again. Still no X.

Tried this, got this answer:
root:# vi /etc/lilo.conf
vi: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.7.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

vasm-legacy > install lilo. Fails.
rebooted to pre-existing 7.0,  vasm > install lilo. Succeeds. Still no X in B0.39 install.
There are many reports of missing libs throughout.

Can log on as root with roarde's password and vice-versa. If this was intended, unintend it.

Now I have truly given up, but have retained the installed-to partitions for now.

For those who (like me) didn't know:
The GUI installer can be re-started from a terminal. When the installer first loads, press the "back" button. You'll be faced with a blank screen. Right-click on the background or mouse to the lower left corner to see ways to launch a terminal. Once it's up, issue "vinstall". The terminal will disappear and be replaced by the initial screen, but mouse to the lower left to see the minimized terminal, ready to be pulled up again. You can also start other terminals during the process.

Now you can see high-level error messages in the terminal, (u)mount partitions, copy over useful info like terminal pastes, install.log, and subprocess.log.

If mounting partitions temporarily, be sure to umount them as soon as possible. But this is usually done after failed install anyway, so . . .

B0-39 32bit vinstall-iso-ng installation.

Wow, wow, wow! Is it true? Wink

Installed, flawless booting into X xfce4 with all icons showing on desktop and panel. Cheesy

First clicks on icons  programs working. Forgot firefox just now, however, Internet
connection up. Gkrellm up.

In ../X11/xinit/@xinirc still points to non-existing kde.

More later.

The euphoria was prematured.

On second boot again no mouse, no keyboard, no Internet connection, no soundcard found, no.....

Made a new install from DVD using TUI installer. Went smooth to the end,
however, like with the GUI a lot of programs were not installed and I could therefore
not open X.

Manually installed packages with upgradepkg --install-new /Packages/*/*.txz.

Worked perfectly and I have now a B0-39 box hich has survived several bootings.

Observations:

Suspend does not work it only kills Internet connection.

Shutdown not complete, fan etc still on.

Opening gpm gives first an error not loading theme fedorainfinity since not found in /usr/share/gdm/theme.
When acknowledged gdm screen opens.

Menu>Accessories>Root-Terminal does not work.

USB stick not recognized, therefore cannot be mounted. CD shows-up on Desktop.

Tried several programs and all seem to be working properly.

I do not in particular like the black background of the panels.
Changing it makes the foreground letters not very readable and I could
not find a way to change them to black.  Workspace switcher stays back
and can barely be seen.

This is something you'll most likely need to flesh out in xorg.conf. The mesa driver supports 3D operations on the G41 chipset, but you need to specify in xorg.conf how it's addressed. Be prepared for the day when xorg stops supporting that chipset as well. It's pretty old as far as intel graphics goes.

Saying "it's broke" doesn't help fix things. What method of installation did you choose? File system? Disk space? Partitions? You need to provide details, not generalizations.

anyway, vl7.1 64   040 version 's installer made problem, file install copying stalled at 10%....
then changed to version 039 installer, can install and boot, but on xfce no mouse  no keyboard, guess intel g41    x org driver does n't work properly due to the kernel patches on vl7.1 40 version....
same mb under knoppix 7.20 and mandriva, work in 3d  nicely....

hope vl7.1 developper will release new fix installer and driver for g41 chipsets....

>.< The MESA 9.1 driver DOES support g41 and 3D operations. Knoppix 7.2 uses an older version of xorg server as does Mandriva. Again, this is most likely NOT a driver issue. It's most likely an xorg issue. You can try creating an xorg.conf file via VASM to see if the issue corrects itself.
