B0-40 64-bit

I mentioned that the TUI installer does not run when trying to install
from a USB stick put on with unetbootin. That was the case already
with previous versions and 32-bit.

However, TUI installer works always when installing from a CD/DVD.

Another reason I prefer installation from DVD. Putting an iso file on a
DVD is as fast or faster as loading it on a USB stick with unetbootin.

Claws-mail still crashes on:

Configuration-Preferences for current account- OK > crash.

In addition I have not been able to retrieve or send mail.
Sending it returns unknown host, receiving says invalid lo-gin.

I have been using claws-mail quite a long time and more than
triple checked this time the settings. There is no mistake on my end. Wink

I copied now .claws-mail from my working /home/user and can receive mail now.
However, still not ending any. The port for sending is 25. Is there a block for
this port in VL7.1?
Code:
Connecting to SMTP server: smtp.smartbro.net:25...
*** smtp.smartbro.net:25: unknown host.

guess your isp blocked port 25, pls change smtp port as 465  or 587

Thanks, no my ISP has not blocked port 25 since it is used in my working box as well as in other distros. Ports 465 0r 587 don't wok.

install VL64-7.1-STD-B0.38  now with samsung lcd monitor,
now chose advanced , it will go forward.....now still installing.....
another bug for samsung lcd,
installer can't distinguish samsung syncmaster  920nw lcd well, which should be working at 1440x900 resolution  in standard...when installing with sync master series of lcd, installer keeps flashing, thenshut off, have to press  switch on  every 2 minutes....
anyone use samsung syncmaster lcd  for installig??

920 nw specification is in attachment hereby

now finally figure out how to  get  samsung 920nw lcd working at 1440x900 @60/75resolution  in standard,
have to edit xorg.conf again, in the Section "Monitor",
add:
ModeLine       "1440x900" 136.49 1440 1536 1688 1936 900 901 904 940 -hsync +vsync
ModeLine       "1440x900" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -hsync +vsync

then
add another line in the section "Screen"

Option         "metamodes" "1440x900_60_0 +0+0"
Option         "metamodes" "1440x900_75_0 +0+0"

now downloaded latest version B041   64bit, making unetbootin pendrive usb disk, then booted , installed smoothly.
only need to change grub  menu  abit, root=/dev/sda1   not sdb1 or sdXn.......

once in xfce4 desktop, same not recognizing samsung 920nw, have to go to xvconf , making manual editing....

ALSO CAN NOT PLAY CD VCD  YET....
poweroff halt can't really turn pc off still

ALSA WAS LOADED SUCCESSFULLY AT BOOTING, BUT UNDER DESKTOP CAN'T USE ALSA  FOR SOUNDS PLAYING....ONLY OSS.....
THEN WENT ALSACONF, IT PROMPTED NO SUPPORTED CARD AVAILABLE

B0.41 32-bit from CD to real hardware. Chose not to install XFCE.

Pointer is very hesitant and jerky both in installer and installed system. Cannot pass partition selection in GUI installer without using pointer.

There's no mkchroot. Yeah, I know it's mainly intended for buildslaves, which implies 64-bit. Still useful for 32-bit, though.

Lilo install works now, but lilo bmp is ugly and text is misplaced. https://bitbucket.org/roarde/lilobmp/downloads/lilobmp.tar.bz2 I'm not suggesting using this splash for lilo, just using it for a demo. I'd mentioned that each arch may need its own lilo bitmap. Now I'm not so sure. I don't have a 64-bit, maybe someone can test the bitmap and data file in the tarball on a 64 and report back. I plan to remove that repo and tarball from bitbucket fairly soon.

Some users may have trouble connecting with their wireless in their previously-installed system after testing this install. The problem is faulty interaction between both networkmanager and wicd (on old system) and the wireless driver; often it's the wireless driver itself. Settings loaded into the card aren't changed on a warm reboot. A cold boot (or one reboot thereafter) should solve this. I say it's networkmanager's and linux's problem -- not ours to solve, just to note and pass upstream.

B0.41 32-bit in VB VM:

Auto install OK. Manual with lilo OK. Agree with roarde that his bitmap looks better. Smiley

Both installs would predictably stop responding to mouse clicks at the login screen if clicking on the different option buttons and cancel the resulting dialog a few times. Pressing (virtual) power button results in clean shutdown. It also happened once while at the desktop, the top menu and bottom launcher stopped responding, but right-clicking on the desktop brought up the menu.

It's subjective, but boot process just seems slow.

Maybe if it used all cores, it would do better. Or, maybe it's deliberate so we get more time to enjoy the boot splash?  Cheesy

Beta releases come when they're ready. These aren't meant to be used as a daily use distro. You test. You wait for a new version and you test again. But to expect fixes immediately as if this were a production release is silly and unrealistic.

hope this release can solve malfunction of the basic commands like halt poweroff reboot....
more users tested and use it ,  vl community can release vl7.1 final  as earlier as possible.
