On second boot no more crashes with umplayer. Several tries.

I am not going to play anything.

And yes, halt still does not completely power-off the machine.

you should try vl beta 44 now.

under beta 44 , halt still doesn't function properly due to KERNEL 'S MODULES MISSING FOR APM.
IF NEXT KERNEL 3.11 UPLOADED ON TEST REPO, IT MAY FIX UP ISSUES, ONCE APM  MODULES NOT MISSING IN KERNEL, ALSA MAY WORK  UNDER DESKTOP  AS WELL.

**facepalm** We're not going to use 3.11.

3.10.x is the new stable tree. That's where VL will stay for now.

Easy on the CAPS dude.  We get your point... ACPI is not working for you... we got it.

Did some trash picking and ended up with enough parts to put together a different testing machine:
AMD Athlon XP 32-bit 2900+ (2 GHz).
2GB DDR-2 400
Via K8 mobo
nVidia GF 5200 FX

The hardware is old and I'm not sure if it's 100%, so won't complain about issues that could be hardware related.

Installed B0.44, Fulliautomatix, and found that it works very well: Boot splash on first reboot, direct rendering, powers down and things are in pretty good shape. Networking tests good and multimedia files play.

Only thing worth mentioning is that on a 40 GB HDD it left 1.8 GB of space unallocated, at the end of the drive, after the main ext3 partition and the swap.

as you've got via K8  mobo, you'd better update BIOS
to its  latest(can support amd 64 bit cpu dualcore as well), PICK ANOTHER  AMD 64 BIT  CPU  IN YOUR NEXT TRASH PICKING, THEN YOU TEST VL7.1 64 BIT,ACHIEV HIGHER PERFORMANCE....
SELL UR AMD Athlon XP 32-bit 2900+ (2 GHz) OVER EBAY OR GIVE AWAY FREE TO VECTOR COMMUNITY MEMEBERS  WHO'S IN REAL NEED.

you should chose install advanced option, then you can fdisk, set  partitions as xfs or ext4 plus swap..."left 1.8 GB of space unallocated" should be for  swap  partition.

on your test PC, can poweroff or halt commands swtch off PC fully now?

B0-44 64bit, DVD TUI installation.

TUI Installer now  found my SATA drive. Smooth installation and booting, posting from it.

Umplayer plays DVD w/o hassling.   Grin  Grin  Grin

Yes, this one works, from menu or command line. But, as they say: your mileage may vary.  Grin

Claws-mail crashes when clicking Configuration>Preferences for current account>OK.....Crash.

However, if I first click Configuration>Edit accounts>Edit>OK> close and then click as on first line of post
there is no more crash. In this case after OK it goes back to Edit accounts window.

I have use claws-mail for quite some time in several distros including VL and never had such a crash.

The end of strace claws-mail after clicking ...Preferences.....>OK and crash

This looks like a bug in the claws mail source code itself.  Have you seen this in other versions of the app ?

I'm posting from the latest beta of Vector 7.1 32-bit (0.44), which I downloaded and installed today, and I must say I'm impressed; it looks good and is working very well, and is very easy to set up now with the graphical installer.

Thanks to all the developers for all your hard work.

@pita: I'm unable to duplicate your issue with claws-mail. See a lot of "GLib-GObject" warnings in the background but no crashes. This is with a single POP3 account configured.
