high end gaming mice[answerd]
« on: July 22, 2013, 12:31:40 am »

yes, exactly what the title says. i plan on getting one soon and was wondering:

has anyone has set one up or has had problems with setting one up. is there support 'driver' wise in vector?

i know its linux and the driver term is a hangover from them, so my next question:

i found a kind of how to on ubuntu site in regards to setting one up in linux, is there much of a difference (i am guessing there is) between ubuntu and vector, and based on the assumption being true, can anyone tell me where the relevant mouse bit are in vector and how i might configure the extra buttons in vector please?

i have read the post about the deathadder and all that and no-one replied to that post, i got a warning about that post being over 120 days old so i post this. i am not going to buy a death adder mouse.

thanks fer read'in

Because of its large userbase, Ubuntu's howtos and such are often referenced in our forums. If you'd like, post the URL for what you found and someone will probably suggest what the differences might be for VL.

actually, it wasnt all from ubuntu, but here they are:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/All_Mouse_Buttons_Working

http://www.ghacks.net/2011/06/28/how-to-customize-extra-mouse-buttons-in-linux/

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=45405

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Input

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ManyButtonsMouseHowto

obviously not all distros are the same so i would like some assistance if possible with just knowing what was where if people could be botherd enough and what maybe wasnt there. thanks heaps.

it would be helpful to provide the model/brand of mouse that you are planning to buy first...

i think i found the appropriate answer but there is no X11 in my /etc. any ideas?

the path to the file that needs to be modified is:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/910-rat.conf.

which i assume that file is there after you get the mouse "installed" or something but like i mentioned above i don't have an X11 directory in /etc.

the correct path is /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
but strangely there should a /etc/X11 in your system...

I found some interesting article about your rat9 mouse

i know, i think its a bit weird too, but what is even weirder is that i cat'd that path, hit enter and it showed that it existed and that it wasnt empty.

thanks heaps for those links, similar same info to what was at the end of the archwiki link. thanks heaps for your help.
