@rbistolfi

on shell the loadkeys command works for de, may also for es ;) but theres no such file for ch, and i do need that one because my old T20 has that keyboard ;)
the de shure for me is some step forward, but to really work on shell its ugly with some characters...
Orgys instead bombs

@roarde
edited the /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap with total sucess - thanks alot!
the shell takes swiss keys too now.

but, the vlocaleset change now has no effect at all. Neither on the keymap layout nor at the USB extHD
shall i change first the c.keymap to en_US too?

... but dint read the article you suggested. will do that first and le u know.

by the way - sorry about the X ;) im running it on Openbox only - need speed on this oldtimers overhere ...

@roarde

...and the funny thing is: on the T20 i got de keymap now.
rc.keymap has the correct de_CH-latin1 entry and the /sbin/vlocaleset shows de_CH-utf8 entry ....
and - more fun - in the shell my beloved swiss keymaps work properly.

???

hmmm . . . .

Either from an x-terminal or a console, 'export LANG=de_CH.utf8 LC_ALL=de_CH.utf8'. From the same terminal, try mounting /dev/sdc2 manually. The fstype should be autodeteced, so 'mount /dev/sdc2 /mnt/win' should do, assuming /mnt/win is there.

Did you remember to do the edit to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keyboard-layout.conf on that machine? Reminder: you said 'Option "XkbLayout" "ch"'   worked.

rc.keymap sets tty (text shell) keyboard layout.
90-keyboard-layout.conf sets X keyboard layout.
/sbin/vlocaleset sets the environment variable for the display character set, but doesn't set keyboard at all. Both tty and X use this variable.
You can edit /etc/profile.d/lang.sh directly rather than running vlocaleset each time.
And in your case, DO NOT use VASM for keyboard configuration. It expects the tty and X keyboard layouts to have the same name, but yours don't.

@roarde

thanks for remembering me, the T20 now works.

and the other machine:
Your suggestion works. could mount the extHD Partitions manually.

here's my lang.sh
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
# Set the system locale.  (no, we don't have a menu for this ;-)
# For a list of locales which are supported by this machine, type:
#   locale -a

# en_US is the Slackware default locale:
export LANG=en_US

# 'C' is the old Slackware (and UNIX) default, which is 127-bit
# ASCII with a charmap setting of ANSI_X3.4-1968.  These days,
# it's better to use en_US or another modern $LANG setting to
# support extended character sets.
#export LANG=C

# There is also support for UTF-8 locales, but be aware that
# some programs are not yet able to handle UTF-8 and will fail to
# run properly.  In those cases, you can set LANG=C before
# starting them.  Still, I'd avoid UTF unless you actually need it.
export LANG=en_US

# Another option for en_US:
#export LANG=en_US.ISO8859-1

# One side effect of the newer locales is that the sort order
# is no longer according to ASCII values, so the sort order will
# change in many places.  Since this isn't usually expected and
# can break scripts, we'll stick with traditional ASCII sorting.
# If you'd prefer the sort algorithm that goes with your $LANG
# setting, comment this out.
export LC_COLLATE=C

# End of /etc/profile.d/lang.sh

and here the rc.keymap:
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
# /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap
# Made by vkmapset on Sun Oct 13 2013
# This file is called from: /etc/rc.d/rc.M

if [ -x /usr/bin/loadkeys ]; then

  # You may load another keyboard keymap e.g. 'loadkeys fr' = french etc.
  # The keymaps are in the /usr/lib/kbd/keymaps/i386 directory.
  loadkeys de_CH-latin1

  # This is so you can open other consoles using the left-[Alt] & [Up]-arrow key.
  echo "alt keycode 103 = Spawn_Console" | /usr/bin/loadkeys
fi

the 90-keyboard--layout.conf on this machine is empty

and, finally, the keys work properly on ch.

manually mounted all partitions of the extHD on different directories on /mnt successfully.
