I have the same problem as this person:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-networking-3/rosewill-rnx-n250pc2-atheros-ar9287-wireless-n-card-hangs-entire-system-949236/

The wireless card is:

Rosewill RNX-N250PC2, PCI wireless card.
01:08.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

The compat-wireless are now called backports, I think:
https://backports.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Documentation

Currently, this is what I get with VL 7.0 STD Gold x86 (32bit) using the above Rosewill wireless card:
1) Install vector STD 7 x86,
2) clicked on Wicd on the top,
3) entered passkey,
4) wicd connects,
5) launch firefox,
6) Desktop and mouse screen frozen,
7) after some more clicking, the screen goes black and remains frozen.

Thanks Smiley
