Problem with Timidity.
« on: November 27, 2013, 05:25:46 pm »

i installed Timidity (using Gslapt) onto my operating system (or a least I think I did anyway) then I tried to play a midi file tried to play a MIDI file uusing the command "timidity midifile.mid, and got the following output:

doctor:$ timidity roland.mid
Check URL type=7
Check URL type=6
Check URL type=5
Check URL type=4
Check URL type=3
Check URL type=2
Check URL type=1
open url (type=1, name=/usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg)
url_file_open(/usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg)
/usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg: No such file or directory
timidity: Error reading configuration file.
Please check /usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg

the problem in question is that when I went to the /usr/share subdirectory, I found that there was NO "timidity" subdirectory there (Gslapt shows it as being installed). Please help. And my operating system is VL 7.0.

I have Vector Linux 7.0 (32 bit), and version 2.13.2 of TiMidity. Now, how do I identify which is the testing repo?

Make sure below repo is enabled in your slapt-get/gslapt's repo list

32bit: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/testing/
64bit: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.0/testing/

PS: Do not run system update with testing repo enable.

This is the reason why I haven't marked it as closed.
