Simple Machines
« on: December 12, 2013, 09:01:35 am »

I like the format of this forum and am thinking of using it on another (non-computer) site I am involved with.  The only downside I see to using simple machines for this other website is this: I have a heck of a time finding things on VL's forum.  Example:  the other day, I saw a post by, I think, overthere, about a program (I think) sort of like unetbootin which someone (I think Nightflier) said might be helpful in getting older computers to boot from the usb port.  But for the life of me, I can't seem to find it.  I search by date, which seems to be the best.  But if, say, I search by the term "usb" I get stuff back in 2009 etc.  I know the post was within the past week, possibly two.  Does anyone know of a vector-like open source program that might be easier to search?

There are a few decent "free" forum software packages out there, phpBB being one of the more popular with good support.

I just did a search on unetbootin and got 60 hits.

The search on this forum is not from Simple Machines it is a Lucene backend that
searches three areas.

Instead of using the search bar on top, click on 'search' from the menu below your avatar, and search there.  That yields better results for me.

When speaking of forum alternatives, I like the stackoverflow style... (ie or similar)
