[solved] how to add a parallel printer
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:49:04 am »
Found a canon bjc2000 (parallel) printer in the closet and thought I would try on VL7.1 b1 32bit

do not see option for it..pdf or hp..see option for drivers in network printers but what would the selection and connection be..it is just for this box and attached to it.

thanks for any..

You need to initiate the parallel port on startup. It used to be in vasm (vasm-legacy), but I don't see it in B1. Try making /etc/rc.d/rc.parallel executable, reboot and try again.

Thanks nightflier

Had to make exe as root, after reboot from print settings the printer was listed and I selected and applied.

The printer now does a test print from the same dialog box and sets url as parallel:/dev/lp0.

However I can not print from apps as user or root. the apps list lpr.evince shows lpr=/dev/lp0.

EDIT: sorry forgot to set printer as default..now appears to print from evince and abiword..need ink to be sure..image is very faint
thanks again
