Author Topic: VectorLinux 7.0 Stopped Recognizing USB Printer  (Read 2164 times)

I've been using VectorLinux 7.0 Standard Gold for a couple of years now along with my HP Deskjet F4180 Printer. For some reason. VL system-config-printer tool has stopped recognizing my printer. I've reinstalled my operating system and I still have the same problem. Any clues?

I'd check to see if the printer is seen by the computer before doing anything else.  I installed usbview from the repository. It's a nice little graphical tool to see what usb devices are seen by the computer.  With the printer on and plugged in it should show up in the list somewhere.  If not, you could have a hardware problem such as printer, cable or even the usb port on your computer.

MJ, thanks for replying. The printer shows up with usbview under OHCI Host Controller.  But strangely, the VL printer setup tool doesn't see it nor does HardInfo.

When I reinstalled VL7, I upgraded to the latest cups. Thinking that cups might be the problem, I unhooked the printer and downgraded to the default install version of cups (1.4.6). I reattached the printer and VL automatically detected the printer and now all is well.
