MATE Desktop VL-7.1
« on: October 30, 2013, 03:16:44 am »

I installed this using the meta , also selected the meta for the extra stuff. I think there's a bad config or something. It loads fine, you get a desktop with a wallpaper, and some icons...that's it. You have no way of getting out of it (besides ctrl+alt+backspace), and there's no menu.

If you right click on the desktop background, select to change wallpaper, it does nothing. Here is packages I selected to install:

mate-desktop-meta  1.4.0-noarch-3vl71
and
mate-desktop-extra-meta  1.4.0-noarch-2vl71

I have build mate-desktop v1.6.x for 7.1 at the untested repo...pls try it
I notice mate as a basic WM with it own file manager and terminal work great of the box (you can install it all by installing mate-desktop-meta package) while the mate-control-center is a bit buggy. So I would recommend just install the mate-desktop-meta and manually install the mate extra component via gslapt.
Below is the mate component packages

mate-desktop-meta lists:
Quote
mate-common >= 1.6.0
mate-doc-utils >= 1.6.0

mate-backgrounds >= 1.6.0
mate-notification-daemon >= 1.6.0
mate-control-center >= 1.6.0

OK, this seems to work good so far. I was able to get the desktop background to change, there's task bars and such with working menu, clock, and calendar. I'll have to tinker around more to see if I can find anything else that would be major enough to report.

MATE is a fork of the gnome2 desktop.

I am uploading it to the testing repo in case someone are not familiar with the untested repo...

I also remove mate-control-center from the mate-desktop-meta to the mate-desktop-extra-meta...

Installed mate and extras to 7.1 B2.1 via gslapt and it offered a session from the login and appears to load fine. changed the wallpaper and added some apps to panel and deleted, also opened several apps. will try again later perhaps on rc as appears still heavy developement
