« on: April 05, 2014, 08:21:24 am »
The VectorLinux team is proud to announce the availability of the RC1 release of VectorLinux-7.1.
We include Xfce4, the gimp, firefox, cups, exaile, popular multimedia plugins, and many other programs to maximize the desktop experience. Also new is  an update to our very own installer, this was written from scratch and is a major improvement from previous installers.
This is a RC release so final is soon to follow after initial peer testing.
We want as many people as possible to test this and give us feedback.

is there going to be a major announcment? like to distrowatch and the sort? and an update to vectorlinux.com that still has  "ETA for Vector Linux 8.0? May 28, 2013"

Congratulations!

Is VL-7.1 compatible with Slackware? Which version of Slackware?

Thanks!

Download smooth, no problem.  Iso copied to flash usb, as usual, using dd command.  No problem.  Booted, again, no problem.  However:  installation failed to continue, stopping with the greeting:  "Welcome to Linux 3.12.16"   root@vectorlinux:~#

?

so, I tried "startx", nothing.  Then, I tried .startx, nothing.  Then I tried ls, and found a few directories, one which looked promising, but after executing the command python setup.py install, nothing happened.

?
no idea what to do next....
motherboard and monitor both work fine with Debian 7.4, & latest releases of Mint, and Suse.  64 bit intel cpu (Haswell) with 8 GB RAM.  Intel graphics on mainboard, i.e. just run of the mill standard computer, nothing exotic or fancy or "state of the art".  cpu mainboard and memory are all more than one year old.

I downloaded it, burned it onto a CD, started to install it onto my new computer - it was then that I discovered that it doesn't recognize my USB keyboard or mouse  :'(.

I tried to install it on my old laptop, but does not work. I hope that the final version will be installable on Celeron Pentium 4 laptops as Vector Linux 7 Standard Gold is. I need this upgrade, as I have some problems with 7.0, like refreshing screen (blurred links), crashing browsers, sometimes System apps do not start (I donot think the problem is my memory, as I have generally 300 MB free on starting the app) and reboot is needed ... I would like to see Mail Checking (or other mail checker to avoid direct downloading of spam) mail checker in the included apps list, probably easier swap installation ...

This question was about a 1.1 to 2 delta, not a 1 to 2 delta. Normally I'd just let this pass, but on the 32-bit side the 1 to 2 delta is returning "xdelta: read failed: No such file or directory". The RC1 iso is there, as well as the RC1.1 iso.
