Grab the syslinux package from the repos. It contains isolinux.
Once installed, have a look at /usr/doc/syslinux-*/doc/isolinux.txt

As I was reading the documentation for it, i noticed that it said that I need something called "mkisofs 1.13". Where do I get a copy of it?

If you have anything called mkisofs -- and you probably do -- it's a later version or a mimic thereof.
'which mkisofs'
If that doesn't turn up anything, install cdrkit from the repos. That contains genisoimage and should create a symlink '/usr/bin/mkisofs', which will work fine.

I don't see mkisofs listed in the repositories, but I did install the latest version of cdrkit. Now, how do I use it to create my own boot sector for use with an ISO file?

If you installed cdrkit from the VL repos, follow the instructions in /usr/doc/syslinux*/doc/isolinux.txt.

Please pardon the echo in here. Or not.

If you're confused, please post the output of 'readlink -f $(which mkisofs)'. No need to do that if you've already discovered that mkisofs is working, of course.
