Boot sector creation help please.

Can anyone out there recommend a program for Linux that till allow me to create my own boot sector to be used with as part of an ISO image?

Grab the syslinux package from the repos. It contains isolinux.
Once installed, have a look at /usr/doc/syslinux-*/doc/isolinux.txt

As I was reading the documentation for it, i noticed that it said that I need something called "mkisofs 1.13". Where do I get a copy of it?

If you have anything called mkisofs -- and you probably do -- it's a later version or a mimic thereof.
'which mkisofs'
If that doesn't turn up anything, install cdrkit from the repos. That contains genisoimage and should create a symlink '/usr/bin/mkisofs', which will work fine.

I don't see mkisofs listed in the repositories, but I did install the latest version of cdrkit. Now, how do I use it to create my own boot sector for use with an ISO file?

If you installed cdrkit from the VL repos, follow the instructions in /usr/doc/syslinux*/doc/isolinux.txt.

Please pardon the echo in here. Or not.

If you're confused, please post the output of 'readlink -f $(which mkisofs)'. No need to do that if you've already discovered that mkisofs is working, of course.
