Legacy ( AMD Catalyst / FGLRX ) video drivers in VL7.1
« on: June 30, 2015, 11:40:07 am »
I was asked to post this as a record of how I got the legacy ( 13.1 / 8.97.100.7 ) AMD Catalyst / FGLRX video drivers to work in VL7.1

First, build an older kernel: 3.3.8 and mapped it to be the running kernel
Using gslapt - added the VL7.0 repo
64bit:
hxxp://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.0/packages/
32bit:
hxxp://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-7.0/packages/
(replace xx with tt)

Downgraded xorg-server, xorg-server-xnest & xorg-server-xvfb to 1.9.5
(only downgrade the ones you have already installed, if you dont have xorg-server-xnest or xorg-server-xvfb it doesnt need to be installed)
Once that was done, downgraded xf86-input-keyboard to 1.6.0 and xf86-input-mouse to 1.7.0
(may not be necessary to downgrade them, but they will definitely need to be reinstalled - I still need to test if the newer / updated xf86-input-keyboard & mouse will work)
Either ctrl-alt-f1 (or f2 or such, up to f6) login as root and change to init 2
OR reboot to TUI
Install the AMD Catalyst / FGLRX driver
Reboot again
All should be well

**It may be possible to use a newer kernel, if you patch the AMD catalyst / fglrx driver - I havent done so yet, but will be testing that at a later stage
