After startx it hangs, all my preferences are gone, have to start from zero, any configuration i had made is gone. I will try JWM see if it is also in disarray. Firefox has to be launched as root, otherwise, I can not launch it. I will keep playing with it. All this hapenned today, yesterday was working fine.

PS: I couldn't edit the .xinitrc, no permissions. Not even as root. I'm reporting this from Debian.

Sounds like your $HOME permissions are corrupted.
I would try as root:

Code: [Select]
chown -R <user>:<user> /home/<user>
Where <user> is your login.

What did you change?  What did you install or update? If this 7.1 light (as indicated by your signature?) ?

This really looks like a typo in your command, could you post the exact line you executed and its output by copy-pasting from command-line ?

Probably, this hapenned yesterday, i got no records. What i remember is that when i tried to delete 'macondo' it said such user did not exist. So i added user 'bobo' configured everything again and now it's hunky-dorry. Sorry, i was in a hurry and took the easy way out.
