VLocity 7.1 64 bit only fails install
« on: January 24, 2016, 04:10:19 pm »

Hello,

the latest VLocity 7.1 64 bit only edition at "ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/VL64-7.1/iso-release/VL64-7.1-STD-FINAL.iso"

locks up at one of the finals steps of install.

the screen is stuck at " setting passwords".
install always locking up at this point.

through several tests from bash shell...
i found the install fails at the "groupadd" command in the install script.

VLocity 7.0 64 bit didnot have install problems like this.

Is there a fix for this install routine?

That same build installs perfectly for me.  You may have a bad download.  I'd try again with a fresh copy just to make sure that isn't it.  Also, try the text based installer and see if that works better for you.

If that doesn't work can you please provide some detailed specs of the hardware you are using.

thanks..
i wonder if it has something to do with doing "advanced" install, using current VL 7.0 partitions.

I dont know how to get it in "text mode install".

i was able to figure something out and got it to work this way...
when it was stuck on "setting passwords" - i shrank the install window down by grabbing the corner of it, then started a "terminal" by right clicking on the background, edited the "grub.cfg"  and changed the kernel config lines to the newer 7.1 kernel and then i also repointed the "config", "System.map" and "vmlinux" file in "/boot" to the right version.  Rebooted and it worked -- but who knows what didnt get done in the install.

You get to the text based installer by typing install at the prompt when you first boot the CD or USB stick.

I would not trust that install.  I would download a new image.  Advanced install is what I do, always.
