VL 7.1 Velocity 64 bit ; Incompatible MB?
« on: February 17, 2016, 06:49:13 am »

After the hussle with installing it on my mini-itx(which yielded a working, albeit graphically lousy system) I went and replaced the Motherboard for this baby:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/QC5000-ITXPh/

Install went (kinda*) ok, but after reboot the system hangs in the bootsplash.
Took me several restarts (Hardly time see, let alone choose between graphic and console...) to get me a prompt, but when I did I got the following:
Code: [Select]
mount: can't find /mnt in /etc/fstab
ERROR: No /sbin/init found on rootdev (or not mounted). Trouble ahead.
You can try to fix it. Type 'exit' when things are done.
/sbin/bash: can't access tty; job control turned off
/#_
Then.... nothing.
nada.
keyboard and mouse as dead as a politicians concience.

More info:
Aside from the MB-change, the only other differences are:
Both HDDs switched order on the SATA-controller.
Added a Video-card (reason I changed the MoBo...)

What could be the problem?

*) - "kinda" because the first in two tries the installer "lost" my keyboard and mouse(both usb) from the get-go. Funny enough they worked when I plugged them into my front-panel. (The graphical BIOS had no problems at all with them, wherever I plugged them...)

Never mind; I found out the issue: In the BIOS I had the boot-sequence of my harddrives switched.
The system tried to boot from the wrong disk.

Typing this from the fresh install now. :D

Leaving this here for referrence, but my successor(s) may decide otherwise...

Quite so; no more "trailing" when moving windows (had that with the previous MB) and pretty smooth handling of videos.
Even though my dedicated card has HALF the RAM I assigned previously to the on-chip GPU and it's a rather old card to boot...(Geforce 8400 EN Silent)
Also of note: The new MB has a lower clockspeed than the previous ones. (1.5 to 1.6 and 1.8 GHz before), but those were Dual-Cores, yet the system is notably faster; those extra two cores make a HUGE difference...
