The Linux Mint hack is a sympton of bigger woes
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:58:43 am »
Excerpt:
"Creating a pseudo-fork of an existing distribution to showcase a DE, while blacklisting updates—some of which are security updates—because it interferes with the DE is staggeringly irresponsible and tantamount to security malpractice."

Mint has been my daily driver for over a couple of years now, and this whole fiasco has left a foul taste which is not going to go away anytime soon.

It's not so much that the Mint team got nailed. It was their wishy washy response to it that royally ticked me off. As soon as they found out about it, they should have notified the authorities. Yet, 2 days after the attack, Clem was still sitting on the fence and even now, we still don't know if they've formally filed a complaint or not.

Traditionally, the open source projects have been a "hands off" type affair when it comes to the black hats and their BS games. This pretty much indicates that we have those that don't care about those informal agreements and as a result, all gloves need to come off. These idiots need to be hunted down and strung up by their short and curlies, made an example of, and show that the majority of us are sick and tired of their crap.

Better yet, start taking them out. Put some real fear into these bozo's where they understand if they get caught doing this crap, their life is forfeit. Would make my job a lot easier and not have to pour through server logs for a couple of hours each day.
