install KDE on VL 7.2 std
« on: July 02, 2017, 07:15:39 pm »
As I am not overly fond of XFCE, I'm planning to install KDE and my test distro VL 7.2 std. However, when I tried to install KDE on a previous test version of VL 7.1 light it caused the login window to freeze, the mouse just wouldn't work and I was unable to login undre any desktop configuration.
Hence, if there is any precaution or tip about how to proceed to this second endeavor to get a KDE desktop on VL I'd appreciate it.

Unfortunately, VL does not have the people power to maintain KDE.  :(

Consider any KDE packages in the repositories to be purely experimental.

I have seen that Slackware has a KDE package.
can I use slapt-get or gslapt to install the Slackware KDE package?

Not recommended. VL takes its inspiration from Slackware. However, the days where a Slack package would possibly install in VL are long behind us.

that's good to know as I, in my ignorance, thought VL was Slackware made friendlier for users abd that any Slackware Package could be installed in VL without trouble.  Where would I find a description of the ways in which VL and Slackware are different and compatible?
