...This release is mainly an upgrade  and bug fix release to our prior 7.1 release. The base and desktop packages have all been updated to their most recent stable releases. The kernel is the latest stable lts release for better hardware compatibility. The repo contains all the latest versions of the most used software in the linux community and much more if the system needs to be expanded...

why is Chromium missing? I didn't find Qupzilla either. And I think my 15-year-old PC was more happy with 3.x kernel than 4.x.

(VL 'Lite' 32bit).

Configured with netconfig and I'm posting from VL64 7.2 light.

Looks like you have a handle on it, nice.  :)

Light is aimed at tinkerers. If you don't need wicd, just uninstall it and press on!

Hey all,

With the spectre/meltdown bugs in mind, I made a test build of the 4.14 kernel wich will be the next LTS.  I'd like to see if anyone is interested in testing it and reporting back results please.

To test, enable the untested reporitory (can be done via gslapt).

Code: [Select]
# slapt-get -u; slapt-get -i --no-upgrade kernel4.14{,-modules,-headers,-stripped-src}

After installing, be sure to run grub-mkconfig or update your lilo.conf and reboot.

I like VL LIGHT customisation (icewmvmods) but why the heck it depends on 240 packages?! It prevents from changing default web browser or terminal, thus prevents customisation.

Menu --> IceWM --> Default Programs

They have to be previously installed, of course.

Menu --> IceWM --> Default Programs
yes I can change default programs but I can't use slapt-get to remove the ones I need no longer because icewmvmods depends on them.

root:# slapt-get -remove roxterm spacefm seamonkey
Reading Package Lists...Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  icewmvmods roxterm spacefm seamonkey

solution: remove/alter 'slack-required' file from icewmvmods package or simply use removepkg.
I come from Debian world so I want to stick to slapt-get.

Code: [Select]
slapt-get --no-dep --remove roxterm spacefm seamonkeyAn or-list for each of these functions in slack-depends is an idea, tho.

I have only been on vlocity for a couple of days and was having problems trying to install 4.05 which I am not very clear which kernel that is.
I have used 4.14 and 4.15rc in this machine for a while so I will give it a try and report back.
As of now I have to trouble shoot not having a keyboard

I can say with some assurance that vl-linux standard 7.2 does not load on a Lenovo T61.  Tried downloading it twice, to two different T61s and burning iso with k3b and xf something or another, installing with advanced, and lilo and grub2.  In all instances it loaded fine and looked fine but, once loaded, no programs would load.  Zilch. Nada.  bummer.
