« on: January 13, 2020, 01:47:33 pm »
How do I get 32-bit software to run in the 64-bit version of Vector Linux? Thanks in advance.

You would need some type of multilib setup to allow that.

Multilib was not included because of its complexity.

Check out this guide if you want to try giving it a go: https://wiki.alienbase.nl/doku.php?id=slackware:multilib#adding_32-bit_slackware_libraries

It seems that the way that article is written, it would only apply to Slackware and not Vector Linux, unless, of course, I'm greatly mistaken.

I am not aware of anyone who successfully implemented multilib on VL. The Slackware outline would be the closest thing to a usable guide. TBH, I don't think the reward to effort ratio justifies pursuing it. Current VL is static and will not receive any more updates.

It seems to me that the reward in question would be a much greater interest in a 64-bit version of Vector Linux - after all Windows 7, and I assume Windows 10, both allow for 32-bit programs to run on their 64-bit operating systems, which is why I'm still using Windows 7, otherwise I would be more willing to use VLocity64.

As I said above: "Current VL is static and will not receive any more updates".

Only you can determine if your own efforts to get multilib implemented on your own system will give you, personally, an acceptable reward.

If you do manage to get it working, please document your steps and share them so that others may learn from you.

While I was doing a bit of research reguarding the running of 32 bit software on 64 bit Linux systems, I stumbled across this information (from the WineHQ website) which put my mind as ease as far as some of the software that I intended to use with VLocity:
