[ SOLVED ] 64 bit PDF viewer for Linux?
« on: March 14, 2020, 12:51:28 pm »
Is there a 64 bit PDF viewer available for VLocity 7.1? And while I'm on the subject, does glabels work with 64 bit Linux systems? Thanks in advance.

I don't have a VL7.1 64-bit test setup right now, but a quick test in 7.1 32-bit reveals several functional PDF viewers. Glabels is in gslapt, it installs and runs without complaints. Given that the 32 and 64 bit versions have the same packages available, it should work the same in VLocity.

So would I be correct to assume that glabels will also work in VLocity?I am asking because I am concidering using VLocity as my operating system, provided, of course, that I am able to get the 64 bit software that I need to use for it.

Glabels: Tested that it installs and runs in a virtual machine of VL64-7.1
PDF viewer that comes with default install displays pdf files.

You can see what packages are available for the system from these resitories:
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.1/packages/PACKAGES.TXT
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.1/patches/PACKAGES.TXT
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.1/extra/PACKAGES.TXT
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.1/testing/PACKAGES.TXT

If your needs are simple, this may do.

My main concern would be the Internet Browser. Distro comes with Firefox ESR 38.7 from 2015. I tried current versions of FF and Vivaldi, but neither will run due to missing or outdated pieces.

Look: If this is a fresh install of VL 7.1, just don't do it. Not worth the trip.

I recall you had some difficulty getting 7.2 to work. Even if you did, I wouldn't suggest that for a fresh 64-bit install right now, either.

Relax, I haven't tried to install it just yet, among other things, I plan to upgrade my computer a bit before trying to install it.

If you insist on installing VL, at least grab 7.2.

It just now occurred to me - where can I get a copy of 7.2 from (the Vector Linux website only goes up to 7.1)?
