wext is short for "Wireless EXTension", and all it means is that it should use the default wireless card on your system and you don't have to change anything anywhere.

This is what I would like you to do:

1 - open a terminal and run:

Code:
tail -f /var/log/messages

That will read kernel messages, so leave that running.

2 - Open a second terminal and run only the wpa_supplicant command:

Code:
wpa_supplicant -B Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

Then post all the messages that appear the both the terminals here so we can take a look at them.
I'm sorry but I don't speak french (I do know a few of the basics, but not enough to engage in a full conversation  Embarrassed)

ok,

i'll try to do that tonight,after my job !

thanks

Just one last question from a new one in linux world who discovers a new command every day:

does "tail -f /var/log/messages" command send kernel messages in the "messages" file or is it just a display so i have to send it in a file with "&>" command to post it to you after ?

bye

hello,

I have done what you said :

(the wifi key was plugged before i power on my pc).
The last ten lines of /var/log/messages are below :

May 14 23:09:42 guinux ifplugd(wlan0)[3180]: ifplugd 0.28 initializing.
May 14 23:09:42 guinux kernel: ndiswrapper version 1.31 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=yes)
May 14 23:09:42 guinux kernel: usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
May 14 23:09:43 guinux kernel: ndiswrapper: driver smcwgu (SMC,01/11/2006,6.3.4.16) loaded
May 14 23:09:44 guinux kernel: wlan0: ethernet device 00:13:f7:63:6a:5d using NDIS driver: smcwgu, version: 0x6030410, NDIS version: 0x501, vendor: 'SMCWUSB-G 802.11g Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter', 083A:4505.F.conf
May 14 23:09:44 guinux kernel: wlan0: encryption modes supported: WEP; TKIP with WPA, WPA2, WPA2PSK; AES/CCMP with WPA, WPA2, WPA2PSK
May 14 23:09:44 guinux kernel: usbcore: registered new driver ndiswrapper
May 14 23:09:44 guinux ifplugd(wlan0)[3180]: Using interface wlan0/00:13:F7:63:6A:5D with driver <ndiswrapper> (version: 1.31)
May 14 23:09:44 guinux ifplugd(wlan0)[3180]: Using detection mode: SIOCETHTOOL
May 14 23:09:44 guinux ifplugd(wlan0)[3180]: Initialization complete, link beat not detected.

When i type :
wpa_supplicant -B Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

there is no reaction in /var/log/messages

but i always obtain error messages in terminal where i type wpa... commmand :
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_PRISM2_PARAM]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_PRISM2_PARAM]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_PRISM2_PARAM]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_PRISM2_PARAM]: Operation not supported

I looked on google and it seems to be link with a hostapd driver.
Do you know it ?

it's the same result(i'vn't verify the exact words but it looks like) with :
wpa_supplicant -B Dndiswrapper -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

I've verify with gslapt, wpa_supplicant is installed.

An other thing :
when i try to unplug an plug again my wifi key i obtain on "tail terminal":
driver zd1211b loaded (or something like that)
Are you sure that the 2 drivers can be loaded at the same time ?

bye

Try blacklisting the zd1211b driver if you are using ndiswrapper.
Open a terminal and logon as root, then add this line to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

Code:
blacklist zd1211b

Then remove the zd1211b module from the memory:

Code:
rrmod zd1211b

Also then try chaging your wpa_supplicant.conf to this:

Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

network={
ssid="XXXX"
psk=XXXX
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
proto=WPA
}

Remember to replace XXXX with the correct values!

i thought zd1211b was already in blacklist because i did it before,but i 'll verify.
And what about :
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_PRISM2_PARAM]: Operation not supported
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported
and host AP ?
There is a driver and a daemon with this name but i don't believe that i need it (but i'm not sure of what i have understand about it on google !)
If you know about these could you explain to me if it's usefull or not ?
thanks

hi,

It's solved !!Thanks a lot !!!

I've done what you said to add in wpa_supplicant and it works..!!!!!!
So it's well a problem with AP.
Could you EXPLAIN what it is ,because i don't know ?

I have too blacklisted zd1211b which wasn't (i'had done zd1211rw only).
{The "rrmod command" doesn't works}

When i 'll be couragous i 'll replace ndiswrapper by zd1211b driver because it doesn't seem that it was the problem !
What do think about it ?

Thanks Again easuter .
Maybe see you soon !
