I will be attending LinuxFest NW, but the PP is right, it costs to have a booth there. Better promotion might be to actually give a talk which somehow includes VectorLinux. Maybe we can all dream something up for next year?

lagagnon,
How was it at the Linuxfest? You hear any interesting speakers? Maybe a good display?

LinuxFest NW was excellent. Considering this is a free conference with 2 days of talks, a famous raffle with loads of excellent prizes and free dinner and drinks on the Saturday night (thanks to one of the sponsors) it is well worth attending.

It is not a professional conference with lots of exhibitors, rather it is fairly laid back with perhaps only 30 or so exhibitors in a very small hall and about 40-50 talks to choose from. Google was there hiring people. Overall quality of the talks was better than last year. I learned a lot.

I highly recommend it to anyone living near the west coast of North America. It is held every year, usually last weekend of April.

Hello Lagagnor:

Do you remmeber what booth was the most prominent?
Were the displays professional or laid back?
What speakers caught your attention and what was the most intersting subject?
Was Ubantu at a booth? Dell? or any other re-sellers?
Did you get a job with Google?

Both PogoLinux & Silicon Mechanics had the larger booths - but by normal conference standards they are still very small. The latter also hosted the free dinner and drinks. Both of these companies sell high-tech Linux Servers.

Laid back for sure!

Possibly the best talk was by Google on how they structure all their hardware servers. But many others such as "Perl one-liners" were quite good - many networking talks for sys admins also....

Yes, Ubuntu had a table, that's about it. Oracle and FreeBSD were there. No re-sellers I don't think.

Hah...no, wasn't really looking for one. I'm happy being semi-retired at the moment!

Darrell: I may have mislead you. There was a re-seller at LinuxFest NW. They are called RElectronics, and they are a non-profit recycler based in Bellingham WA. They set up a room full of used PIII machines running Ubuntu as free email and browsing machines for attendees. After the LinuxFest they then auctioned off the machines, usually for < $150 US. Most of the machines were P750-P900 range, with about 384MB of RAM. Anything less would probably not run Ubuntu effectively.

Their website is:  http://relectronics.org/

You might also want to check out the small charity I volunteer for - we refurbish recycled computers and donate them to those in Victoria BC who cannot afford their own computer. Since early 2006 we have been installing VectorLinux Standard (a slightly re-mastered version specific to our clients needs) on these boxes (about 150-175 of them per year):
