070422 Opera-9.20 in testing
« on: April 22, 2007, 02:52:46 pm »

The latest and greatest version of Opera (9.20) is in the testing repo. The only reason it's there is to ensure that the packaging doesn't present issues for anybody attempting to upgrade to it. ;-)

http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/net/ opera-9.20-i386-1vl58.tlz
Code: [Select]
opera: Opera (web browser)

opera: Opera 9 comes loaded with the tools to keep you productive and safe.

opera: LICENSE:   Proprietary software - distributed under licensing

Post any problems you may have with upgrading here. If there are no problems with the package, it should be moved into the extra repo for the folks using VL 5.8 Standard. ;-)

Cheers,
John

I get this when i run it
Code: [Select]
uel:$ opera
The Opera binary is not located at "./bin/opera".
Please modify the wrapper script at "/usr/bin/opera".

I've removed the 1vl58 package of opera-9.20 from the testing repository because of the issues with the wrapper script. In its place will be http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/net/opera-9.20-i386-2vl58.tlz which addresses the issue of the wrapper script problems. Give this package a try and post in this thread whether it works for you.

Thanks,
John

I am relatively new to Vector and I would like to update Opera to 9.20. On my Windows PC which I use for my work I updated it to 9.20 and recently to 9.21. When I downloaded Opera-9.20 and started the setup, I was given the opportunity to choose 'update' and the rest went automatically. I have 2 questions: Is it safe now to use the patched  version of 9.20? And can I just download Opera-9.20 from the patches re pro and will the procedure be the same?

Yes, you can just click on that link and download the opera 9.20 tlz package (to your home folder for example).
Then open a terminal, logon as root (with the "su" command), and then type:

Code: [Select]
upgradepkg opera-9.20-i386-2vl58.tlz
That will upgrade opera using the package you downloaded.

I get an error message: There is no installed package named opera-9.20-i386-2vl58.tlz (Looking for /var/log/packages/opera-9.20-i386-2vl58.tlz)
The package is in /home/frane and I told the sytem to go there by using the command 'cd'
